Serums + Oils

Serums:

Not to be confused with hair oil, hair serum is a silicone-based (or non-silicone) styling product that is designed to coat the surface of the hair to help impart added shine, smoothness, hydration, and humidity + pollution protection.

It’s different from an oil which works mainly to condition on the inside, whereas serums can be used as a quick fix to treat hair at the surface. However, the disadvantage of hair serums lies in the application process, especially when it comes to how you use it. applying a serum starting at the roots can yield unwanted results and suggests starting at the ends, only going as far as the midsection.  Plus, by forgoing the roots when applying a serum, you can avoid annoying product buildup. heating up the serum in your hands and give it about 7 seconds to allow the serum to soften.

Oils:

There are many benefits of oiling hair, so finding which oil is best for you depends on your needs! If you’re going for the deep treatment, look for oils that focus on hydration and strength. If you’re using it for styling, then look for oils that smooth and add shine. Either way, oils are a great way to add lightweight nourishment to strands and are a plus in every hair care arsenal!

Massaging the oil into the scalp increases blood circulation, which may improve hair growth and prevent dandruff.

Follow these steps to give hair oiling a try:

  1. Apply oil on your scalp and massage with fingertips using a circular motion.
  2. Apply the oil left on your palms to your hair.
  3. Cover with a towel or shower cap and leave on overnight.
  4. The next day, shampoo hair while dry. Rinse thoroughly.
  5. Condition as normal. You can also use coconut oil as a conditioner.
